Domain Price Increase – Renew Now!

September 22nd, 2008

Both Verisign for the .COM/.NET as Public Interest Registry (PIR) for the .ORG have announced price increases beginning either on the 1st of October or somewhere in November of this year.

If you have domains you wish to renew or keep for the coming years, it is well worth to add a couple of years of registration! Especially if you live outside the US, take advantage of the low US dollar vs the Euro :) .

Moniker is running a special/limited offer, $7,29/yr for each registration, renewal or transfer.

New wave of cyber-theft involves names of Web sites

August 20th, 2008

“Officials at Lemon Sponge Cake Contemporary Ballet in Boulder were shocked to discover recently that their Web site had disappeared off the face of the Internet.

“We had bought the domain name from NameSecure, which is kind of ironic,” said Jenifer Sher, the ballet company’s executive director. “I guess it must have expired, but we didn’t receive any renewal notices.”

To make matters worse, Sher couldn’t send or receive e-mails, because her address was tied to the Web site.”

Excellent article (although in this case it is not really theft) that shows how important a domainname can be, that you need to choose a trustworthy registrar and, most importantly, need to keep your contact details up to date!

Yet according to long-time IDN investor and IDN expert David Wrixon, “[t]here are IDN investors out there that will make Frank Schilling look like an amateur.”

When it comes to making money in domaining, there are many strategies. But if you are looking to capitalize on one strategy that holds a lot of potential, you should check out IDNs. Although you may never be as successful as Schilling, the timing for getting into IDNs is good.”
